About Me

I'm a 26 year old dad to be from Ohio. My son is due October 28th. I have unfortunately always been over weight. I want to make sure I lose the weight this time to make sure I am around and healthy for him. Please come back as often as possible and help keep things new and exciting here...hopefully we will all have some fun along the way to me getting in shape. Please feel free to send suggestions for diet or workouts you want to see me do. If you want to follow along with me on your own please send in updates of your progress if you would like to share.

I'm back

Well we are moved into the new house. No where near unpacked, but moved at least. We painted for 4-6 hours or more a night for several days. The moving involved tons of lifting and up and down stairs over and over.

I feel like I did a very good job sticking to a reasonable diet during the move with limited junk food, and choosing healthier options when forced to eat while out. The workout was definitely up to par. I highly recommend moving to anyone wanting to get into shape. It will definitely work out every muscle in your body. If you don't feel like moving just offer to help a friend. You will make their day while getting a great workout, and they will probably buy you dinner as well.

The scale is still packed up, but I feel as though I have slimmed down a little more. Last time I weighed right before packing the scale I was down 15 pounds. I am hoping to be 18-20 pounds down once I get the scale unpacked.

Wow...

I haven't been posting and for that I am sorry to any of you wanting to keep up with everything and continue to vote.

We have been painting and packing non-stop for a move to the new house we just had built. Saturday is the big official move with the moving truck and all. I will be back on again soon and starting up more polls. Right now I am running up and down stairs, lifting all the boxes, and painting that I am getting all the workout I can handle at the moment.

Thanks for understanding. Please check back in soon to see the new posts and polls.

Friday-Sunday

I have good new and bad news. The bad news is that I haven't gotten any suggestions from anyone yet so I will have to make another poll from my own ideas this time. The good news is that I have lost 7 pounds since we started!

I am definitely not doing any more sit ups. Two days of 100 sit ups a day has got me feeling like I got punched in the gut. It is a good feeling though, because I know I got a good work out. I ended up doing 25 normal sit ups, 25 sit ups while holding my knees at 90 degree angles to the floor, 25 twisting my right elbow to my left knee, and 25 with left elbow to right knee. The twisting sit ups reminded me that somewhere under these love handles I have long forgotten muscles, and by far the hardest. There is a very long road ahead of me before I ever expect to see any definition, but with workouts like the last two, I know I am laying the foundation.

I am going to be doing a lot of lifting today getting ready to move, so I am going to use that as my excersise. There is a new poll below for tomorrow through Sunday. Please remember to leave a suggestion for a work out after you vote. Thanks!

What workout routine should I do daily Friday-Sunday?
30 minutes wii boxing
60 minutes of backyard football
20 minute bike ride

What Do You Think?

I want to say thank you to all of you that have visited the site, whether you are a repeat visitor or if this is your first time. Your participation is what makes my blog work. So Thank you for stopping by and for voting!

The main idea of this idea is that you get to have some fun by suggesting what workouts I should do, and being able to read about my experience with them. To date, all of the work out options have been ones that I have come up with that I thought might be enjoyable for you to read about, and challenging for me.

Please feel free to leave a comment by clicking on the "comments" link below. I really want to start getting some ideas rolling in that I can incorporate into the polls. Once we get enough coming in to choose several from, I will pick 3-4 of the ones that I feel I am capable of doing at my current fitness level at the time of the poll.

Thank you so much for helping me do this.

The Mummy Returns

Does everyone remember those really old black and white horror movies that starred mummies? Flash forward to today and you get me as your star instead. During the weekend the vote was a tie 3-3 for 20 flights of stairs and 500 jumping jacks. Without being able to break the tie I did both.

On Saturday I did the jumping jacks. The first 100 was a breeze. During the second 200 I definitely started to break a sweat. Sometime during the third 300 I black out...not really, but man it was kicking my butt. I had to stop and come back later and finish up the additional 225 or so that I had left. I got them all in within a few hours to spare before sunset. Between the jumping jacks and the packing I got a much, much bigger workout than I normally would sitting in a bank.

Sunday was stair day. I knocked out the first 10 sets up and down and found myself so winded that I swear I just blew up a blow up pool equivalent to a real Olympic pool. I had to do the other 10 in two sets of five because my legs were turning to jello.

Come this morning I felt like my muscles had fused to my bones and refuse to move. I'm not sure, but I think that horror movie mummy might have actually stumbled along faster than I was this morning.

It was a horrible, but great feeling simultaneously. I am still sore, but am very proud of myself.

This week I am going to put out a few options, but I will ask that you guys leave a suggestion by clicking "comment" or the pencil icon below. I want this to be fun and exciting for you and me...so let me know what you would like me to do and I'll put it in the poll. If I get a lot of suggestions I'll pick 3-4 at random.

What exercise should I do for Tuesday-Wednesday?
20 minute bike ride
30 minutes of wii boxing
100 sit ups

Impressed

I rarely give product recommendations, but today I feel I must. There was an advertisement on this page for a great site, SparkPeople.com. I visited the site and signed up for a completely free weight loss plan that was customized to my preferences. I was also automatically grouped up with members there with similar sitations and weight loss goals to me, and became a part of their "team."

They have a nutrition tracker, and fitness tracker, and a weigh-in section. All three seem very easy to use and very beneficial. There are numerous articles that are very helpful to anyone trying to get into better shape. A message board is also available for to give support to someone or get a little for yourself when you are struggle or need a pat on the back for a job well done reaching a goal.

Your personal goals, as well as "streaks" of reaching mini daily, weekly, or monthly work out or food consumption goals are tracked on the front page, and help encourage you to stay on track on the small scale.

Overall I find there site to be the best weight loss site I have found. The amount of information and customization geared specifically towards helping you get in the shape you want to be in is incredible. On top of all of this the site membership is completely free, and requires absolutely no personal information (other than weight loss goal related). I highly suggest all of you check it out and see what you think.

You may need to scroll up or down on the list by clicking the little arrows at the top of the list to find it.

Please make sure to vote on this weekends workout below, and be sure to become a follower by select the "Follow Blog" at the top of this page. Thanks

Torture Weekend

Thanks for coming back and helping me out with your vote and support. If this is your first time here then welcome.

I enjoyed the last two days of walking, and I will walk again tomorrow. This weekend though I decided that I would like to feel the burn so I picked some very challenging workout options for me to do.

Put your vote in and let me know what you think I should do.

What extreme workout should I do daily this weekend?
500 jumping jacks
250 sit ups
20 minutes of leg lifts
20 flights of stairs up & down
ugg boots

Two Days In

I have to say that I was a little surprised by the overwhelming support to the option of walking for 30 minutes per day. I assumed that there would be a vote for the more punishing workouts like the jumping jacks or sit ups. My dogs definitely appreciate your votes as they got two great workouts trying to keep up with me.

It was very nice after a long day stuck inside to take a nice brisk walk through the neighborhood before I move in a couple weeks.

I will be updating the poll for new work out options tomorrow. Please come back and vote for something new and exciting as I will take out the winning option each time on the next vote.

Roasted or Baked?

STOP! Don't call PETA just yet. I am not really proposing anyone eats a guinea pig diet (although it is a delicacy in parts of South America). This blog is all about me being the proverbial "guinea pig" in an experiment.

I have unfortunately always been a big guy. Countless diets have come and gone in my life...Atkins, low calorie, weight watchers, you name it. They all got boring and I lost the will to continue on with them. It is this boredom that I have to overcome. I want to finally get in shape. My first child is due in October and I want to be here as long as I can, and as healthy as I can be for him.

Some things you should know about me...I am a VERY picky eater, but I am not only going to put up food that I like as voting options (so this could get very interesting). I am 26 years old, 6'3" and my current weight is 378 pounds. My ultimate goal is to get to 240 pounds. I do not believe that to be doable in the 5 months until my son is born, but if this is a great success at that time I will continue being your guinea pig.

Starting Tuesday May 26, 2009 I will be posting up options of exercise that I am willing to do (or die trying), food that I am willing to eat for the day, and various other diet related options. Then its up to you. I want the input of the world. This is a social experiment with the ultimate goal of getting me in shape through your smart decisions. I strongly encourage anyone who wants to follow along with me to do so. Then keep me updated with your progress and thoughts.

I am willing to make the commitment to do whatever the masses vote on. All I am asking of you is to commit to coming back as often as possible and helping me keep this interesting and successful. Once I start getting a good group of followers I would love to take reader suggestions of exercises or food choices to be including in the voting.
